Born in Johannesbourg to British parents, Stephen made his county debut for Worcestershire in 2003 when he was only 18. The opening batsman demonstrated excellent form from the outset as he topped 1,000 County Championship runs in 2004 and 2005.
Three years on and Stephen bettered his previous record by clocking 1,288 runs including five centuries, which not only elevated his own status as an opponent to be reckoned with but also took his club into the higher division. More recently he has attained a place in the England Lions tour where he hit 100 against Australia, and has joined First Division county team Lancashire.
